União Oeste Paranaense de Estudos e Combate ao Câncer (UOPECCAN)
IIPAN Center & Collaborators
The public cancer hospital UOPECCAN is located in Cascavel, Paraná, and diagnoses approximately 70 new cases of childhood cancer each year. It is one of the only hospitals in the South of Brazil offering treatment for pediatric oncology and is the only IIPAN collaborator located in the southern region of Brazil. The south region of Brazil is the most developed part of the country; hence its representation in research projects is crucial for a more accurate picture of Brazil. IIPAN is an integral partner in advancing nutritional education and research for the country and nutritional care for the patients served.
Pediatric oncologist Dr. Carmem Fiori is the IIPAN medical collaborator. She works with dietitian Bruna Lima on advancing clinical care for children with cancer and is advancing our understanding of the impact of nutrition in pediatric oncology by collaborating in multicenter research studies.
