The Division of Child and Adolescent Health (CAH) is dedicated to improving the health of children and adolescents in New York City and defining model programs for the care of high-risk children everywhere. We provide comprehensive clinical services and community health programs in partnership with the Ambulatory Care Network (ACN)  of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and conduct research and develop innovative programs. CAH includes general and community pediatrics, adolescent medicine, the child advocacy center, the complex-care program, developmental-behavioral pediatrics, a well-baby nursery, and a newborn clinic.

Members of the division are both pediatric generalists and subspecialists. CAH is responsible for the well-baby nursery and the adolescent consult service at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital and includes 47 full-time faculty, three part-time faculty, sessional faculty, and 107 part-time/affiliated faculty. Division members serve as both the gateway (e.g., generalists, adolescent medicine) to the subspecialties and support for other subspecialists (e.g., adolescent medicine, complex care, child maltreatment, developmental-behavioral pediatrics). Our faculty practice in various settings, including community and school-based health centers, the well-baby nursery, and ColumbiaDoctors. CAH has both a clinical and basic science research footprint and is home to the Center for Children’s Digital Health Research.

In 2023:

  • NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital received the Baby Friendly Designation from Baby-Friendly USA, the accrediting body for the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative in the US, which accredits hospitals that adhere to evidence-based practices that increase breastfeeding initiation and duration.
  • Melissa Stockwell, MD, MPH, named Convening Chair, Pediatric Coordinating Committee of the NIH program Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery Initiative (RECOVER). Exploring the long-term effects of COVID, this study seeks to:
    • Characterize the incidence and prevalence of sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection
    • Characterize the spectrum of clinical symptoms, subclinical organ dysfunction, natural history, and distinct phenotypes identified as sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection
    • Define the biological mechanisms underlying pathogenesis of the sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection
  • Evelyn Berger-Jenkins, MD received a Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) Primary Care Training and Enhancement - Residency Training in Mental and Behavioral Health (PCTE-RTMB) grant. The PCTE-RTMB program trains primary care residents in the prevention, identification, diagnosis, treatment, and referral of services for mental and behavioral health conditions for pediatric, adolescent, young adult, and other populations who are at-risk or have experienced abuse, trauma, or mental health and/or substance use disorders
