Trans-Departmental Children’s Council (TDCC)

Identifying opportunities to advance children’s health at Columbia and NewYork-Presbyterian

The NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital Trans-Departmental Children’s Council (TDCC) brings together the many clinical departments and divisions at Columbia that collectively provide care to children. The purpose of the TDCC, established this year by Jordan Orange MD, PhD, chair of pediatrics and hospital physician-in-chief, is to strategically combine efforts and share ideas as well as identify new potential opportunities to advance children’s health at Columbia and NewYork-Presbyterian.

The TDCC’s accomplishments over the past year include:

  • The creation of a shared internal resource that maps all children’s health services and scheduling information
  • A hospital-wide comprehensive transition medicine initiative to ensure that patients with chronic illness experience a seamless transition from pediatric caregivers to adult medical subspecialists. (The proposal was developed by the TDCC transition medicine committee, chaired by Gary Schwartz, MD, chief of medical hematology and oncology, and is supported by the dean of the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and NewYork-Presbyterian executive leadership.)
  • A branding strategy to optimize multidisciplinary programs on social media and enhance the web presence of these programs. (The strategy was developed by the TDCC marketing committee, led by Steve Stylianos, MD, chief of pediatric surgery, and is endorsed by hospital leadership.)
